Přestože funkce koordinátora bezpečnosti práce na staveništi nabyla platnosti podle zákona č. 309/2006 Sb. již od 1.1.2007, vyskytují se stále stavby, na kterých koordinátor má být a přesto není. Časté jsou také případy, kdy je koordinátor sjednán v průběhu výstavby pozdě, kdy ještě není v předstihu s projektovou dokumentací zpracován plán bezpečnosti práce na staveništi (dále jen plán BOZP), a nemůže tedy koordinátor včas naplánovat bezpečnostní opatření týkající se zařízení a zajištění staveniště.
